Preparing for the visit
We look forward to meeting you and your family pet soon.
During the scheduled consultation, a “conscious oral exam” including a brief physical exam, will be done to the best of our ability, or to what your pet will allow.
Dr. Winter will advise you of the preliminary diagnosis and what treatment options are available for you to consider. Anesthetic and procedural risks will also be discussed.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Based on our initial impression, we will provide an itemized treatment plan for the cost of the services and any options. Keep in mind, a thorough oral assessment of your pet’s condition is not complete until an exam and intraoral radiographs are performed under general anesthesia. It is not uncommon that many conditions are more involved than what owners or referring veterinarians may have perceived.
If the findings differ from the original discussion, we will always call you to explain. For this reason, we require a contact phone number where you can be reached at all times while your pet is with us.
Blood Work
Make sure your pet has current blood work (CBC, Chemistries, +/- Urinalysis) within the last 3 months.
If your pet <7 years old: a Preanesthetic panel, PCV, and TP.
If your pet is >7 years: a CBC, Complete profile, and UA. Cats will also need a total T4.
If your patient has any special anesthetic concerns (heart murmur, seizures, kidney disease, etc) please let us know in advance of the appointment on the referral form as further tests may be needed.
