Digital Dental Radiographs
Intraoral radiographs
Intraoral radiographs are one of the most important diagnostic tools available to a veterinary dentist for diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up evaluation. Since 60% of the tooth is below the gum tissue, dental radiographs allow us to visualize the internal structures of the tooth, tooth roots, and the bone that surrounds the tooth. Without these dental radiographs, the veterinary dentist would only be guessing at the diagnosis and treatment.
Without dental radiographs, painful problems will remain undetected in your pet
Dental radiographs help diagnose conditions that are hidden, such as cysts, tooth resorption, tumors, and unerupted teeth. They help us develop an appropriate treatment plan for periodontal disease. Since the pet does not tell us which tooth is painful, the dental radiograph is essential in diagnosing the problem.
No animal will accept an x-ray sensor to be placed in their mouth and hold still for the exposure. So, taking dental radiographs requires the pet to be anesthetized.
The great thing about digital dental radiographs is that far less radiation is needed, which is safer when compared to standard radiographs. In addition, digital radiographs are environmentally friendly because there are no chemicals.
